Fishermen of the IB Pier

A photo gallery of some of the fishermen of IB Pier.

Most mornings, before the sun barely begins to peek out from the east, you’re likely to see at least a few determined fishermen headed out onto the Imperial Beach Pier. By 10 a.m. on a good, sunny day, the pier is lined on both sides with people of all ages trying their luck at hooking the big one.

More often than not, it ends up being a social event for the regulars, but if you spend enough time out there, you’ll see them reel in a few perch or anchovies here and there.

I wanted to capture some of the characters of the pier as they cast their lines and waited patiently for even the smallest bite to alert them of interest from the scaly creatures of the Pacific. Each and every person I stopped to take photos of and chat with were friendly and helpful to the extent that it made me want to put down my camera and pick up a fishing pole.

If you ever find yourself near the pier with nothing to do, I highly recommend wandering out and hanging with the fishermen.
