Save A Life: Diabetes Health Fair This Weekend

Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista will host a Diabetes Health Fair Saturday.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), 25.8 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes—7 million of those are undiagnosed cases.

The ADA also says that 79 million people throughout the U.S. are pre-diabetic. Without proper management and treatment of diabetes, you can go blind, develop kidney disease, lose your limbs and even die.

Scipps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista is doing their part to stop the diabetes epidemic. This Saturday, the public is encouraged to visit the hospital for a free . The fair will provide free valuable information to those with diabetes, on the verge of diabetes, and family members and caretakers of those with diabetes.

Health care professionals will be on hand to give blood glucose and blood pressure screenings, diabetic retinal exams and foot exams. You’ll also learn how you can eat a healthier diet for a diabetic lifestyle, get dental information and learn how you can manage your disease.

This fair is also a great way to see what kind of community health resources are out there. Some zumba will take place (a pretty fun way to work up a sweat and stay healthy!) and raffles with giveaways will be played.
